An electric parking brake is provided to protect a system such as a reduction gear by damping tension of a parking cable using springs when excessive tension exerts on the parking cable. An electric parking brake comprises a housing(11), an electric motor(12), a reduction gear box(13), a screw shaft(14), a nut shaft(15), a parking brake cable(16), a tension detecting module(17), a cable connecting unit(18), and a controller(19). The electric motor is installed at one part of the housing. The reduction gear box is connected to the electric motor and installed in the housing, and has a reduction gear. The screw shaft is installed in the housing and operated by the reduction gear box. The nut shaft is linked to the screw shaft. The parking brake cable is connected to the screw shaft and the nut shaft respectively and exposed to the outside of the housing. The tension detecting module is connected to one of the screw shaft and the nut shaft. The cable connecting unit is installed in the housing, and connects the tension detecting module and the parking brake cable. The controller is installed in the housing, receives a signal from the tension detecting module and controls the electric motor on the basis of the signal. |
