PURPOSE: A broadcasting signal detecting apparatus and a method thereof are provided to recognize the existence of a broadcasting signal and to reduce a synchronizing time. CONSTITUTION: A broadcasting signal detection apparatus calculates a signal power value for a sample corresponding to a correlation length(S701). The apparatus calculates an energy correlation value for a sample corresponding to first and second correlation lengths(S702). In case a calculated SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) is greater than a predetermined threshold value, the apparatus determines that a broadcasting signal exists in the received sample(S704,S705).
