摘要 316,970. Armstrong Cork Co., (Assignees of Hartman, S. H., and Humphreys, C. F.). Aug. 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Inlaid linoleum ; ornamenting coated fabrics.- In inlaid linoleum the pattern units, for instance, units representing tiles, are comprised of two or more colours, or of two or more shades of the same colour. The different shades are preferably non-symmetrically arranged with respect to the pattern units, and the latter are connected by intervening joints which contrast with the colours of the pattern units. Different areas are preferably embossed to different planes, the, line of embossing conforming generally to the outline of the pattern units and of the contrasting colour patches of the same unit. Similarly in a printed or felt base linoleum, unit areas may be printed in different shades of the same colour, and the patches of different colour may then be embossed to different planes coinciding with the outlines of the various areas, In making moulded inlaid linoleum according to the invention, linoleum mixes of different colours are applied to a burlap backing through a number of stencils to produce a pattern such as that shown in Fig. 5, where 13 and 14 are of different shades of one colour, and the portions 15 are of a different colour to simulate the mortar joints between the irregularly shaped stones represented by the parts 13, 14. The material is compacted first in a press with a smooth upper plate, and then in a press having an upper plate 8, Fig. 1, adapted to depress to different degrees the various areas 13, 14, 15. The parts 15 are depressed to the greatest extent and the parts 14 are depressed lower than the parts 13. Figs. 6 and 7 show a similar linoleum in which the tesserae are of various colours, and irregularly shaped parts of each tessera, are of a different shade to the remainder. The parts 18a stand higher than the parts 18<b> and are of a darker shade, while the mortar parts 17 are depressed below the parts 18b, 16b. The block 16 is of a different colour to the block 18. Mixes of different grain sizes may be used in the different colour areas. Specification 261,950 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that felt base or other linoleum having a printed pattern similar to that shown may be embossed similarly. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
