<p>A device that will suspend, support hold and substantially lock in any desired position any flexible hose, cable, rope or lengthpiece comprises a wrap body around which the lengthpiece is wrapped at least approximately once in a helical or spiral path. The wrap body can be any cylindrical, conical, polygonal shape suitable. Preferably a helical or spiral slot is formed in the wrap body around which the lengthpiece is wrapped. At least one pressure actuator may be provided which applies pressure on the lengthpiece to substantially hold the lengthpiece on the wrap body and prevent slippage. At least one pressure actuator cut-out may be provided on the wrap body for engagement by the pressure actuator. At least one angular adjustment fixing or indexing device may be provided on the wrap body to accommodate the optimum approach angles between the lengthpiece and wrap body. The device essentially works by holding and locking under its own weight and friction against the surface of peripheral recess whilst maintaining the form of the lengthpiece etc., without collapse, kink or strain to the held lengthpiece. Typically, the device may be used to provide main support points for hoses or cables etc. where significant spans are bridged without the use of a catenary and where spans or lengths can be pulled firmly and left slack at different points of the route, e.g. a compressed gas supply from a dockside to a vessel in dry dock where normally the weight of the length of hose and the securing method by tying, will cause collapse, kink or strain; the supply connection can become stressed resulting in a restricted gas flow or unsafe connection and a potentially hazardous state.</p> |
