PURPOSE: A composition containing a bivalent cation is provided to prevent and/or treat diaper rash and atopic dermatitis. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and/or treating enzymatic irritation contains 0.001-50% of a bivalent cation and a carrier. The bivalent cation is copper(II), zinc, iron(II), calcium, strontium, magnesium, tin(II), nickel(II), manganese(II), or cadmium(II). The carrier is a lotion, a cream, a gel, a stick, a spray, an ointment, a cleansing liquid wash, a solid bar, a paste, a powder, a mousse, a wipe, a patch, a wound healing dressing, a plaster, hydrogel, a film, or a diaper. The composition additionally contains ketoconazole, miconazole, elubiol, allantoin, calamine, dimethicone, kaolin, petrolatum album, petrolatum, cod liver oil, lanolin, mineral oil or topical starch agent.
