<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device such that an image has a good contrast and is impressive. <P>SOLUTION: A polarizing plate 14 for parting which functions for parting is arranged at a part of a liquid crystal panel 1 other than a display area. The polarizing plate 14 for parting is arranged having its polarizing direction in cross nicol relation with a polarization beam splitter 10. Polarized light P1 which is emitted from a light source 7 and reflected by the polarization beam splitter 10 to impinge on the polarizing plate 14 for parting is transmitted through the polarizing plate 14 for parting and irregularly reflected by surfaces of a circuit board 6 and the liquid crystal panel 1 arranged ahead. Even if polarized light P2 is generated in a process of the irregular reflection, the polarized light P2 is cut off by the polarizing plate 14 for parting and never reaches the polarization beam splitter 10. Therefore, the polarized light P2 is never emitted to outside an illuminator 12, and neither causes a decrease in contrast of the image nor makes the image less attractive. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
