<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device, a discharge lamp driving method and a projector in which a discharge lamp can be restrained from blackening, and widening of the distance between electrodes can be suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: A light source device 1 comprises: a discharge lamp 500 having a light-emitting container including a cavity part 512 in which a discharge medium is sealed, and a pair of electrodes 610 and 710 whose ends are disposed opposite to each other in the cavity part 512; and a discharge lamp driving device 200 which supplies a drive current to the pair of electrodes 610 and 710. The drive current is obtained by performing amplitude modulation of alternating current whose frequency is 1 kHz or more and 10 GHz or less, and the amplitude modulation of the alternating current is performed so that a first section and a second section having the amplitude smaller than that of the first section are alternately repeated.
