<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow vapor to be being condensed for an extended period. <P>SOLUTION: An emergency cooling system for a nuclear reactor includes an emergency condenser 1 for cooling a nuclear reactor by introducing vapor generated by decay heat of a reactor core in emergency, a first cooling system 2 for making cooling water 3 circulate to the emergency condenser 1 through natural circulation by using the heat, a heat exchanger 4 for cooling the cooling water 3, and a second cooling system 5 for making the sea water for cooling circulate to the heat exchanger 4 through natural circulation from the sea 20 by using the heat.
