PURPOSE: A traffic information providing device and method are provided to improve the reliability of a traffic information providing service from a user at the wheel by selecting traffic information related to the current vehicle driving direction of the user and outputting the information on a screen. CONSTITUTION: Traffic information data is received from a traffic information center(S10). The current location and driving direction of a vehicle is checked(S20). The traffic information data consistent with the current progressive direction of the vehicle is selected(S30). The selected traffic information data is outputted on a navigation screen(S40).
