PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for recovering microbial cells is provided to remarkably reduce culture period, to improve the performance of anaerobic ammonia oxidation, and to remarkably reduce culture period. CONSTITUTION: A method for recovering microbial cells comprises: a step of transferring treating water containing ammonia and nitrite to anaerobic ammonia oxidation tank(12), and ammonia-oxidizing the same by using anaerobic ammonia oxidizing bacteria; a step of denitrificating the ammonia and nitrate; a step of passing the denitrificated water to a culturing tank(14) which is sealed by impregnating container for preventing leakage, and attaching the anaerobic ammonia oxidizing bacteria to an immobilizing material in the culturing tank; and a step of collecting an immobilized microorganism attached to the immobilizing material.
