The chuck (1) has a central body (2), and chuck jaws (1.1) arranged at the body in an articulated manner for holding a screw that is guided through a central recess (2.2) of the body, where the jaws are clamped opposite to each other. A continuous casing (3) is formed in the recess, and comprises a channel (3.4) for the screw. An outer surface of a projecting portion of the casing has a section (3.2) that serves as a stop for one of the jaws, where inner diameter of a hollow space (1.3) formed by recesses of the jaws is larger than inner diameter of the casing. An independent claim is also included for a method for adjusting opening width of one of chuck jaws.
