Provided is a surrounding monitoring device capable of imaging the vicinity of a vehicle without impairing the outer appearance of the vehicle, the surrounding monitoring device being configured so as to be provided on the vehicle and comprising: a light source for illuminating the surroundings of the vehicle; and a camera which images a condition around the vehicle along an optical axis changed by a mirror so as to be directed toward a lower part of a peripheral portion of the vehicle illuminated by reflection of at least part of the light irradiated from the light source, the mirror being configured so as to be provided on the outer side of the peripheral portion of the vehicle.
