The device (100) has a receiver (102) for receiving a signal comprising a noise portion and an information containing utilizable portion. A transformation switching circuit (104) determines a transformed signal based on a continuous wavelet transformation of the received signal. A determination switching circuit (106) determines the information from the transformed signal, and demodulates and decodes the transformed signal. The receiver and the switching circuits are interconnected over a connection (108) e.g. electrical connection such as cable. The signal is selected from a group comprising a mud-pulse telemetry signal, a hydraulic mud-pulse telemetry signal, an acoustic telemetry signal, an electrical telemetry signal and an electromagnetic telemetry signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for receiving information.
