<p>This invention relates to a braking device (10) for a passenger conveyor comprising at least one movable part (12), said braking device (10) comprising a braking element (18) having a braking portion (34) engageable with said movable part (12) of said passenger conveyor; said braking element (18) being movable in a first direction into a position in which said braking portion (34) engages with said movable part (12) of said passenger conveyor; said braking element (18), in a state in which said braking portion (34) engages with said movable part (12) of said passenger conveyor, being movable in a second direction from a position of initial engagement of said braking portion (34) into a braking position of said braking element (18), said movement in said second direction being driven by movement of said movable part (12) of said passenger conveyor, characterized in that said braking element (18) is supported such as to be swivable around a swivel axis (X) substantially perpendicular to a plane of movement of said movable part (12) of said passenger conveyor, said second direction being directed circumferentially with respect to said swivel axis (X).</p> |
