A device performs measurement by placing an object over the device without contact. To guide the object to a position appropriate for the measurement, a sample virtual image based on the shape of the object is displayed in an appropriate position, the difference in the position, attitude, and shape between the object and the virtual image is calculated, and the calculated difference is displayed in the same place as the sample virtual image, thereby allowing a user to efficiently position the object.
