<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the produce of aromatic carboxylic acids or aromatic acid chlorides having substituents such as an alkoxy, a hydroxy, a formyloxy or an alkanoyloxy on the aromatic ring. <P>SOLUTION: The process for the produce of the compound of formula (IV) includes the steps of (i) reacting a compound having a halogen with magnesium metal under anhydrous conditions to form an intermediate compound, (ii) reacting the obtained intermediate compound with carbon dioxide to form a compound of formula (VIb) after hydrolysis, and (iii) reacting the compound of formula (VIb) with sodium hydroxide, or the like, to form a compound of formula (IV), wherein each X is independently chloro, bromo or iodo and R is a hydrogen atom, (C<SB POS="POST">1</SB>-C<SB POS="POST">6</SB>)alkyl, or the like, R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is aryl, aryl(C<SB POS="POST">1</SB>-C<SB POS="POST">2</SB>)alkyl, or the like. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
