<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for controlling an electric power steering apparatus that constantly achieves good steering performance in such an environment that is changeable from low to high temperatures. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for controlling the electric power steering apparatus includes: a dead time characteristic unit 211 that calculates the dead time characteristic value based on the current command value; a steering state determination unit 210; a gain unit 212 that allows the gain of the dead time characteristic value to be variable; a polarity determination unit 213 that not only switches the polarity determination method according to the determination of the steering state determination unit but also determines the polarity based on the model current value of a motor; a temperature sensor 300 that detects the temperature of an inverter; a dead time temperature correction value calculating unit 215 that calculates the dead time correction value in response to the temperature; and an arithmetic processing unit 216 that carries out the arithmetic processing of the dead time temperature correction value to the polarized dead time correction value to output the dead time correction value.
