A tip treatment bar 16 for a rotor casing, wherein the bar comprises a composite structure having a plurality of layers 26, 27, 28, 30, 32 arranged therein to provide the bar with a directional stiffness characteristic. The layers may be internal or external layers. A coating may be provided on an external surface of the bar. The layers may comprise fibres and a matrix. Fibres of different layers may have different orientations. The bar may comprise an inner body with at least one internal layer, and preferably a plurality of concentric layers, arranged circumferentially there around. The bar may be supported in a rotor casing of a gas turbine engine by end supports 18a, 18b. The supports may comprise a composite material. The bar may be spaced from each support by a damping member. The damping member may comprise a composite material with anisotropic stiffness characteristics.
