摘要 <PICT:0381816/IV/1> Gaseous hydrocarbons are cracked by subjecting them to endothermic cracking in a heated coil 1 and then to exothermic cracking without the addition of heat in a lagged reaction chamber 2 from which the products are passed through a pipe 4 where they are mixed with liquid hydrocarbons supplied through a pipe 5 and the mixture is led into a reaction chamber 6 where the liquid hydrocarbons are cracked by the heat of the gases. Propane and butane are mentioned as starting materials and the products include aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene and xylene. The products mixed if desired with part of the gases byepassed through a pipe 12 are passed to a scrubber 13 where they are scrubbed with oil and then to a fractionating column 15 from which reflux is recycled through a pipe 20 while the vapours are condensed in a cooler 17 and the condensate consisting of a mixture of benzol and gasoline is collected in a receiver 18. The gases are washed with absorbent oil in a vessel 23 and the oil is passed to a still 28 where the gases such as ethylene, butylene, &c. and the residual benzol &c. are distilled off, the benzol, &c. being condensed in a cooler 30 and separated in a receiver 31 while the gases are removed through a line 33a or recycled to the coil I. The exothermic reaction may be controlled by the introduction of gases through the line 35. Part of the gases from the chamber 2 may be led off through scrubber and absorber 10, 11.
