The present invention relates to a method for collecting road tolls and to a terminal therefor. The terminal for collecting road tolls comprises: an interface unit which receives a signal from a preregistered communication device; a positioning unit which calculates the position of the terminal when the signal is received in the interface unit; a wireless communication unit which transmits the information on the position of the terminal obtained in the positioning unit to a server; and a control unit which searches for information on a preregistered vehicle in correspondence with the communication device which has transmitted the signal when the signal is received in the interface unit, and transmits the found vehicle information, together with the information on the position of the terminal obtained in the positioning unit, to the server via the wireless communication unit. According to the present invention, road tolls may be automatically paid using a general portable terminal without having to use a dedicated electronic toll-collection terminal, to thus save the cost of the dedicated electronic toll-collection terminal and prevent procedural inconveniences of installing the dedicated electronic toll-collection terminal and of purchasing, installing, and charging dedicated electronic toll-collection cards, etc. |
