<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake control apparatus for a vehicle that enables more appropriate brake control of the vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The brake control apparatus for the vehicle automatically brakes the vehicle in response to a risk of collision between an own vehicle and an obstacle. The apparatus includes: a collision determination device for determining whether the risk of collision between the own vehicle and the obstacle is high; an automatic braking device for automatically generating braking force in the own vehicle when the risk of collision between the own vehicle and the obstacle is determined to be high by the collision determination device; and a braking-force gradual decrease device for gradually decreasing the magnitude of the braking force generated by the automatic braking device in response to a steering operation of a driver of the own vehicle.
