<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element which is low in corrosiveness of an electrolyte layer and is excellent in photoelectric conversion efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: A photoelectric conversion element 110 includes: a semiconductor electrode including a semiconductor layer 121 and a dye; a counter electrode 140; and an electrolyte layer 130 provided between the semiconductor electrode and the counter electrode. The electrolyte layer contains a compound of general formula (1).
