415,644. Waterproofing. FRANCOIS CEMENTATION CO., Ltd., 701, Salisbury House, London Wall, London.-(Assignees of Travaux Souterrains ; 36<bis>, Avenue de 1'Opera, Paris.) Jan. 22, 1934, No. 2237. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1933. Drawings to Specification. [Class 140.] A process for waterproofing masonry or strata, particularly in pit sinking, excavating tunnels &c., and constructing foundations, piles, dams &c., consists in injecting a fine aqueous suspension or dispersion of clay and a swelling agent for such clay. The swelling agent may be sodium carbonate, which tends to stabilize the suspension and may be mixed with the suspension before injection, or injected separately through the same or separate boreholes. A precipitating agent may then be injected, such as aluminium sulphate, sodium chloride or lime, and is preferably one which reacts with the sodium carbonate &c. to form a further precipitate. The injections may be made through concentric tubes. The process may be combined with other waterproofing or consolidating processes such as cementing or silicatization. The suspension may also contain bitumen &c. acting as a binding agent, or one of the reagents used in the silicatization process.
