<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide fibrous carbon that is excellent in handleability, inexpensively and efficiently. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing fibrous carbon includes: introducing a raw material mixture liquid SM that contains a carbon source and a catalyst source including a metal simple substance and/or a metal compound in a reactor provided with a thermal conductive surface S1 having thermal conductivity by a pulse system; contacting the raw material mixture liquid SM with the heated thermal conductive surface S1 to vaporize the carbon source and generate an atomic metal; contacting catalyst particles to which the atomic metal is compounded with the vaporized carbon source to grow fibrous carbon.
