<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a toner pattern detection means for density adjustment to always properly determine the state of use of an intermediate transfer body without any influence of a recording medium or an image area ratio. <P>SOLUTION: On a surface of an intermediate transfer belt 10, in an area of a width of W<SB POS="POST">1</SB>outside an area which can be brought into contact with a maximum-width sheet P<SB POS="POST">M</SB>, or in an area of a width of W<SB POS="POST">2</SB>which is not brought into contact with a secondary transfer roller 18, a toner pattern 100 for density adjustment is formed. A photosensor 7 is arranged opposite the area, as toner pattern detection means for optically detecting the toner pattern 100. The toner density is adjusted on the basis of a result obtained by the photosensor 7 optically detecting the toner pattern 100. The photosensor 7 optically detects the surface state of the area of the width of W<SB POS="POST">1</SB>or W<SB POS="POST">2</SB>on the intermediate transfer belt 10 to determine the state of use of the intermediate transfer belt 10, on the basis of the detection result. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
