<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deodorizing material which has excellent deodorizing performance on odors such as the odor of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan or the like, and improved durability of deodorizing performance, and to provide a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: Dried kenaf is immersed in a cationizing treatment liquid, is washed with water and is dried by heating, then is immersed finally in a liquid solution of a metal phthalocyanine complex, washed with water and is dried by heating.
