<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of receiving video signals regardless of the kind of video signals and the length of a cable, and a video-signal-receiving circuit. <P>SOLUTION: The display device is a projection type video image display device 1 which comprises: a signal input part 20; an equalizer 301; an attenuation detector 302; a control part 303; a signal-receiving part 304; and a display part. The signal input part 20 accepts the input of a video signal. The equalizer 301 changes the frequency characteristic of the video signal input through the signal input part 20. The attenuation detector 302 detects a quantity of attenuation from a clock signal of the video signal input through the signal input part 20. The control part 303 controls the equalizer 301 to amplify the input video signal on the basis of the quantity of attenuation detected by the attenuation detector 302. The signal receiving part 304 receives the video signal which has been changed in the frequency characteristic and amplified by the equalizer 301.
