<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a perpendicular magnetic recording medium which is inspected in an evaluation made by using an appropriate index. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a substrate for a perpendicular magnetic recording medium in which: a ratio of a preset range integration value with respect to a total range integration value is 0.3 or less, the integration values being obtained by measuring a cross-sectional shape of a main surface of a disc-like substrate having a polished main surface and subjecting a waveform of the measured cross-sectional shape to a Fourier transform to transform the waveform of the cross-sectional shape of the main surface into a relationship between the wavelength and the intensity, and calculating the preset range integration value which is an integrated value of the intensity of the wavelength in a preset range and the total range integration value which is an integrated value of the intensity of the wavelength in the measured full range; the wavelength in the full range is within a range of 4 nm or more and less than 125 nm; and the range of the wavelength in which the preset range integration value is calculated is 8-24 nm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
