DELIVERY SYSTEM AND METHOD

A system and method of enabling collection of a physical entity by an intended recipient, used with an arrangement including a stored value account system associated with a mobile telecommunications network, such that the intended recipient is an authorised user of a stored value account which is associated with a smart card usable in the mobile telecommunications network, the method including a network entity of the stored value account system: receiving payment for the delivery of the physical entity; reserving at least part of the payment to one or more service providers pending successful delivery of the physical entity to the intended recipient;receiving identification information for the intended recipient that is associated with the stored value account;upon receiving a collection request for the physical entity, verifying the intended recipient; and upon positively verifying the intended recipient, releasing the at least part payment via the stored value account system to the one or more service providers. Preferably the identification information received is also associated with the mobile telecommunications network smart card and the verifying step includes using the mobile telecommunications network to verify that the intended recipient is in physical possession of the smart card. The account is preferably a stored value account, such as M-PESA.
