The strain-gauge sensor comprises a load element which can be fixed to an object to be monitored, a piezooptical transducer, which converts the magnitude of the stresses on a photoelastic element into an electrical signal, said photoelastic element being fixed in the deliberately loaded state and in such a way that the action of an initial force load is implemented in two mutually perpendicular directions, and a signal processing unit, wherein the load element is a hollow cylinder with no fewer than four slots, which do not disrupt the integrity of the cylinder, while the photoelastic element of the piezooptical transducer is fixed in the cylinder in such a way that the optical axis of the piezooptical transducer coincides with the axis of the cylinder and is perpendicular to the plane of the stresses being measured.
