The present invention relates to a cleaning agent for a lubricating oil and the production process thereof, and a process method for producing an additive for a lubricating oil having a TBN of from about 100 to about 400, the process method comprising reacting the following components at a relatively high temperature: component (A), an alkyl salicylic acid or alkyl salicylate; component (B), an alkaline earth metal base, which can be added in one batch or in multiple batches during the reaction; component (C), at least one compound thereof is (i) an alcohol or (ii) a carboxylic acid or anhydride; component (D), a foundational oil; component (E), carbon dioxide, which is introduced after completely adding component (B) or after adding each batch of component (B). Low boiling point solvent is removed from the reaction mixture under vacuum after the mixture is highly alkalized, and then a bright and clear liquid product is obtained by filtration.
