<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary electric machine that improves material yield of a rotor core. <P>SOLUTION: A generator 1 (rotary electric machine) includes: a shaft 21; a rotor core 24 that is arranged so as to surround the shaft 21; and a stator core 11 that is arranged so as to face an outer peripheral surface of the rotor core 24. The rotor core 24 has: a plurality of first magnetic pole portions 241a (241b) having a permanent magnet 30 (31); and a plurality of second magnetic pole portions 242a (242b) not having a permanent magnet 30 (31). The first magnetic pole portions 241a (241b) and the second magnetic pole portions 242a (242b) are alternately arranged in a peripheral shape.
