Method for punching and straightening sheet metal

The method involves accommodating a stamp complementary to a die (17) at a tool holder (30) of a punching machine (1). A metal sheet (15) is punched by imprinting a surface of the metal sheet with an end face of a stamp in a phase of a punching stroke for creating a bend in the metal sheet between the end face of the stamp and an adjacent edge of the die and by cutting the metal sheet with a rim of die end face in another phase of the punching stroke to form a cut edge of the metal sheet. Lateral force is applied to the cut edge of the metal sheet with a bevel. An independent claim is also included for a punching tool.
