<p>A method of identifying target cells with which to initiate handover, a computer program product and a network node are disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: receiving timing offset information indicative of a timing offset between frames transmitted by different cells; and in response to a message having information relating to a detected target cell, the message having a detected timing offset between frames transmitted by a source cell and frames transmitted by the detected target cell, identifying as candidate target cells with which to initiate handover any cells having a timing offset indicated by the timing offset information which is within a range bounded by the detected timing offset. Using this approach, it is possible to narrow down the candidate target cells by using timing offset information which is already reported in pre-existing messages and comparing this with timing offset information which has been collected and stored previously. Such an approach enables a significant narrowing of the candidate target cells to be performed by legacy equipment without needing to adopt updated standards which would otherwise require additional information to be included in such messages.</p> |
