PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for predicting the failure of a streetlight are provided to efficiently maintain the streetlight by mounting an external light blocking cone to determine the failure of a light emitting diode module. CONSTITUTION: An illumination sensing unit(150) senses the current illumination of a light emitting diode module. An external light blocking cone is installed between the illumination sensing unit and the outside to which the light of the streetlight is irradiated. The external light blocking cone blocks external light sensed by the illumination sensing unit. A replacement timing predicting unit(170) predicts the replacement timing by comparing the current illumination with reference illumination. A reference illumination generating unit(160) sets the illumination measured to the replacement timing as the reference illumination.
