PURPOSE: A driving unit for a position control device is provided to use an AC motor to the position control device by controlling the rotation of the AC motor with signals supplied to an inverter. CONSTITUTION: A driving unit for a position control device comprises a sensor(400), a driving controller(500), and an AC motor(600). The sensor continuously senses the specific area of a material, which is supplied from an unwinder reel, to detect whether a material deviates from a progressive direction. When the sensed signals transmitted from the sensor determine that the material deviates from the progressive path, the driving controller generates driving signals for rotating the AC motor forward or backward to control the progressive path of the material or to control the position of the winder reel where the materials are wound. The AC motor is rotated forward or backward by the driving signals generated in the driving controller.
