<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of restraining a discharge lamp from blackening and suppressing widening of the distance between electrodes, and a method of driving discharge lamp and a projector. <P>SOLUTION: A light source device 1 comprises: a discharge lamp 500 having a light-emitting container containing a cavity 512 where a discharge medium is encapsulated therein and a pair of electrodes 610, 710 in which their edges are arranged facing each other in the cavity 512; and a driving device 200 supplying driving current to the pair of electrodes 610, 710. The driving current is AC current with amplitude modulated and a frequency of 1 kHz or more to 10GHz or less, is configured by modulating the amplitude of the AC current so that a first interval and a second interval having an amplitude being smaller than that of the first interval, are alternately repeated, and the modulated frequency of the amplitude modulation is set to 10 Hz or more and 1 kHz or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
