PURPOSE: A composition containing a Tetrapanax papyriferus extract for preventing or treating dental caries is provided to ensure antibacterial effect and to suppress glucosyltransferase activity. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating dental caries contains 0.01-50 wt% of Tetrapanax papyriferus extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water or an organic solvent. The organic solvent is low alcohol of C1-C4, acetone, or a solution thereof. The extract is a fraction prepared by adding an organic solvent to the water extract of Tetrapanax papyriferus The oral composition is a toothpaste, oral cleanser, or oral spray.
