<p><PICT:0477022/III/1> In the destructive hydrogenation of oils and like liquid hydrocarbons the hydrocarbons are preheated in a coil S, and then passed into an antechamber A, filled with catalyst and forming part of the reaction chamber C where they are vaporized and mixed with hydrogen, the mixed vapours then passing down the reaction chamber C. The hydrogen enters through a passage B at the bottom of a tube T enclosing the reaction vessel C and is preheated by passing upwardly through the annular passage D formed between the vessels T, C. In putting the apparatus into operation the tube T is heated initially by an electric coil and the reaction temperature is afterwards controlled by varying the rate of supply of the oil. The reaction products leave through an opening E and the unconverted oil may be separated and recycled. French Specification 650,974 is referred to.</p> |
