PURPOSE: An elastic polyester staple fiber using recycled polyester and a method for fabricating the same are provided to obtain the elastic polyester staple fiber for spinning and a non-woven fabric. CONSTITUTION: An elastic polyester staple fiber is a side-by-side fiber, which is fabricated with a first component resin which is recycled polyester of high viscosity and a second component resin which is polyester of low viscosity. The weight ratio of the first component resin and second component resin is 30:70-70:30. A method of fabricating the elastic polyester staple fiber comprises: a step of spinning the first and second component resin in a side-by-side type at 230-300 Deg.C. and 600-2000 mpm; a step of drawing the spun fibers in a warm bath at 60-95 Deg.C.; a step of primary thermal treatment of the spun fibers at 70-250 Deg.C. for 5-30 seconds; a secondary thermal treatment of the thermal-treated fibers at 40-100 Deg.C. for 5-30 minutes; and a step of cutting the fiber into staple fibers.
