<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the false recognition of a user in a gate system using electric field communication. <P>SOLUTION: A gate system includes: a main electrode 11 installed inside a gate, an auxiliary electrode 12 installed at an entrance side of the gate; a main transceiver 14 capable of electric field communication; an auxiliary transceiver 13 capable of electric field communication; a computer 15 which discriminates whether or not a user carrying a portable terminal is in an authentication area in the gate using a signal from the portable terminal received by the main transceiver 14 and the auxiliary transceiver 13.
