<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a security paper used for a booklet that is a paper used for a saddle stitch bookbinding and is extremely effective to detect a forged passport and the like, and a method for producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The security paper 1 for a saddle stitch bookbinding includes two or three paper layers. At least one line of window thread 10 is arranged on a front face of the security paper 1 and at least one line of window thread 10 is also arranged on a rear face of the security paper 1. The lines of window thread 10 arranged on the front face and the rear face, respectively, are lines arranged on the front face and the rear face, respectively, at coordinate positions that are bilaterally symmetric with respect to a center line 6 of the security paper 1. Intermittent open window areas 11 that are arranged on each outermost layer of the front face and the rear face and threads 12 that are arranged on a lower layer of each outermost layer and exposed at the open window areas 11 extend in the same direction.
