The fiber-optic sensor (100) comprises an optically-conductive fiber core (110) on which an electrically conductive layer (140) is formed. The electrically conductive layer is surrounded by a magnetostrictive layer (150). A protective coating (160) is provided on portion of magnetostrictive layer. The layer thickness of the magnetostrictive layer is about 2-200 microns, 4-100 microns, or 5-50 microns. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for manufacturing fiber-optic sensor; (2) measurement system; and (3) method for validating fiber-optic sensor.
