PURPOSE: A system and a method for operating a gas compressor for returning boil-off gas are provided to prevent the internal pressure of a liquefied gas storage tank from being increased, to obtain reduced time, the convenience of a driver, and the safety of the liquefied gas storage tank by using automatic parallel operation logics. CONSTITUTION: A system for operating a gas compressor for returning boil-off gas comprises a pressure sensor(20), a first flow rate sensor(32), a second flow rate sensor(34), and a control unit. The pressure sensor measures the internal pressure of a liquefied gas storage tank. The first flow sensor measures the flow rate of boil-off gas flowing from the liquefied gas storage tank to the first HD gas compressor. The second flow rate sensor measures the flow rate of the boil-off gas entering from the liquefied gas storage tank to a second HD gas compressor. The control unit processes information obtained from the pressure sensor, the first flow rate sensor, and the second flow rate sensor to automatically load up or down the first and second HD gas compressors.
