This endoscope uses fringe images obtained by projecting light-dark patterns on a material under examination to measure the material under examination. The endoscope is provided with: a long insertion part; an imaging part which is disposed at the tip of the insertion part, and acquires images of the material under examination; an illuminating part which illuminates the observation field of the imaging part; and a pattern projecting part on which a light source, which projects light for projecting the light-dark patterns on the material under examination, is disposed. The pattern projecting part produces a region in which the light-dark patterns are not projected on at least one end in the direction in which the fringes of the light-dark patterns line up within the imaging field of the imaging part, in a state in which the light-dark patterns are being projected on the material under examination. |
