<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type image display system capable of creating a multi-screen picture in which a luminance change is not visible even in a black display. <P>SOLUTION: In a projection type image display system which creates a multi-screen picture using a plurality of projection type image display devices, a second area other than a first area in which effective images projected from adjacent projection type image display devices are overlapped one another is divided at least into two areas.
