The method involves sampling of component by probe. The relative position between component and probe is changed, while another sample is collected at another point of the probe. The sampling, position changing and sample collection processes are repeated until a predetermined number of samples are captured at different points. The contour of a portion of the collected samples is interpolated. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) device for determining contour of component; and (2) visual checking machine.
