The dosing device (8) has a bulk material container (1) which comprises container wall (5) and a downward limiting base element (6). The base element with respect to the container wall has a circumferential metering gap (7) through which the bulk material is dosed and provided into the discharge opening. The metering gap and/or closest vicinity of the metering gap is variable and/or movable using the dosing unit (9), so that the loose portions of the bulk material are retained or fall through by the metering gap. An independent claim is included for method for variable quantity metering of bulk material.
