The invention relates to an electric power steering system (1) for a vehicle, in particular an auxiliary power steering system for a motor vehicle, with a leading screw (2) from a nut (4), which is mounted in an axially nondisplaceable manner in a frame (3), and with an axially shiftable component (5), the external thread (6) of which is in engagement with a thread (7) of the nut (4), and with a servomotor (8), between the shaft (9) thereof and the nut (4) or a washer (10), which is connected to the nut (4) for conjoint rotation, there is a traction mechanism (11) for transmitting a rotational movement of the shaft (9) of the servomotor (8) to the nut (4). In order to provide an electric power steering system, the operating noises of which are minimized in a simple manner and which has a low power loss, provision is made for the traction mechanism (11) to be formed from at least one cable- or strand-like first cord (12) and a second cord (13), and for the cords (12, 13) to be arranged at least indirectly on the shaft (9) of the servomotor (8) in such a manner that, upon rotation of the shaft (9) of the servomotor (8), a cord (12, 13) is wound on the shaft (9) and a cord (12, 13) is unwound therefrom without slip between the shaft (9) and the cord (12, 13).
