<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video encoder, a video decoder and a corresponding method for encoding and decoding video signal data using a multiple-pass video encoding scheme. <P>SOLUTION: The video encoder includes a motion estimator (116) and a decomposition module (174). The motion estimator performs motion estimation on the video signal data to obtain a motion residual corresponding to the video signal data in a first encoding pass.
